Welcome to this week’s ‘Midweek Musing’.
Today I’d like to open a can of worms 😊.
I connected with a guy on LinkedIn a few weeks ago. He saw my profile and picked up on the words “I help people achieve their potential”.
In response, he wrote…
“I always strive to unlock my true potential, but I’m still trying to figure out what that is :)”
It’s a really good point!!
What is our potential?
How do we know what we might be capable of?
Where are our limits?
I wrote him a note back saying…
“It’s a great point. If we’re honest, I think most of us would say the same. Once upon a time (when I was in my twenties), I thought of it like a destination – a fixed point. More recently, I’ve come to think of it a little bit like walking towards the horizon. Whenever I get close to it, I always see a new horizon… a new set of possibilities and challenges. So, I guess, I tend to think about it more like closing the gap on my potential (although I’ve never expressed it like that until now 😊)”.
When I take a moment to ponder it, I guess the question isn’t, “What’s my potential”.
Instead, it’s probably, “Am I moving closer to my current horizon?”
“What am I doing to get closer to my current horizon?”.
I’ll freely admit, I’m in the foot-hills of this particular musing. I’d love to know your thoughts!!
Have a great day!!
