our top highlights, and what comes next

Can you believe 2023 is only a handful of days away?

Like most in education, we’re currently enjoying a well-earned break. Before we do it all again in the new year, we’re taking the opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come in the last 12 months.

It would be an understatement to say that it’s been our busiest, most exciting year yet. So, let’s take a look back at what you might have missed in 2022 (including our 10 most popular blogs), and take a sneak peek at some of the exciting projects we’ve got brewing for 2023…

The Cognitive Science Network

In September 2022, 12 UK-based schools joined the Cognitive Science Network with a shared goal: developing new, ground-breaking Teaching & Learning strategies. Three months, ten expert masterclasses and countless inspiring conversations later, the members have already started to implement changes in their schools.

We’ll of course be keeping a close and keen eye on their progress and improvements – while we work on the second term of the Cognitive Science Network.

The Teaching & Learning Spotlight

One of the experts the Network members got to work with was Senior Leader and What Every Teacher Needs to Know author, Jade Pearce. We’ve admired her work, knowledge, and passion for Teaching & Learning research for years now.

So, when she asked us to collaborate on a quarterly webinar + magazine combo, packed full of the latest studies and the classroom strategies stemming from them, we leapt at the opportunity.

The first edition of the Teaching & Learning Spotlight came out in October 2022. It has now reached thousands of teachers across the world and received some glowing reviews. Of course, this only makes us more excited for the second edition in January 2023…

Our improved on-demand learning platform will give your staff unlimited access to CPD modules, discussions with experts, practical resources, lesson plans, and more.

The 2023 Teaching & Learning Summit

After a highly inspiring first edition in 2021, we’re back in the Jafar Hall at Eton College this February.

We’re incredibly excited to hear from our 12 speakers, exchange with other evidence-informed educators over coffee and lunch, and hope you are too. To find out more about this day of CPD and book your ticket, visit the Eventbrite page.

Teaching & Learning Illuminated: Big Ideas, Beautifully Illustrated

Every time we publish a book, we swear it’s the last one. And every time, we get roused by a new, exciting idea and get to work on another.

In a few months, you will finally be able to hold a copy of Teaching & Learning Illuminated in your hands, look at its 50+ graphics explaining cognitive science principles clearly, read about the research they’re based on and the strategies you can use to action them. And you’ll see why we had to make it.

In fact, you’ve already seen some of these graphics, notably in our 3 most popular blogs this year:

We worked hard to make this the most useful and beautiful book we could think of for teachers. We’re immensely proud of it and can’t wait for you to get your hands on it. But this time, we really, really promise: it’s the last one.

More collaborations than ever

In addition to the experts who taught masterclasses for the Cognitive Science Network members, those we are interviewing for the InnerDrive Online Academy, those who will be speaking at the Teaching & Learning Summit, and our Teaching & Learning Spotlight co-conspirator, Jade Pearce, we worked with more of our favourite people than ever this year.

Check out the guest and co-written blogs we published this year:

And more…

Incredibly, this is only part of what we’ve been up to this year.

We published a whopping 155 blogs (that’s 3 blogs a week, every week). We delivered hundreds of workshops in eight different countries. We welcomed 12 new team members. We even curated our own Cognitive Science Strand at the Festival of Education!

And we’re ready to do it all again in 2023. Want to add your school to our calendar? Get in touch with our team here, or find out more about:

  • Our teacher CPD workshops, covering subjects such as Retrieval practice, Rosenshine’s Principles, Memory & Learning, Cognitive Load Theory, and more.
  • Our student workshops, covering study skills, stress management strategies for exam preparation, mindset development, concentration training, and more.
  • Our parent talks, to help parents and guardians get involved in your students’ learning and well-being.

As promised, here are our 10 most popular blogs of 2022, for you to read – or re-read. See you next year!
