Is Austin Ekeler playing on Thursday night? Fantasy injury update for Chargers-Raiders

The Chargers are out of the AFC postseason picture, but plenty of fantasy football owners hoping to advance in their playoffs are counting on Chargers players having big games on Thursday Night Football against the Raiders. Unfortunately, one of L.A.’s biggest stars, RB Austin Ekeler, is “questionable” due to a quad injury. With fantasy owners fretting over every lineup decision, injury updates on whether Ekeler will be active are crucial before making your first start ’em, sit ’em call of Week 15.

We’ll continue to update this post with news on Ekeler up until the active/inactive report comes out on Thursday at about 6:50 p.m. ET.  For all the latest fantasy updates, follow us on Twitter @SN_Fantasy.

Is Austin Ekeler playing on Monday night?

Ekeler was limited in practice the past two days, which doesn’t necessarily tell us much since the Chargers mainly held walk-throughs. Nonetheless, he’s listed as “questionable,” but there’s no real indication he’s in any danger of missing Thursday’s game.

Assuming he plays, Ekeler a must-start against Las Vegas’s 25th-ranked run defense. He missed the first meeting between these two teams in Week 9, but Vegas gave up 84 total yards and a touchdown to Kalen Ballage and another 59 total yards and five catches to Joshua Kelley. Fullback Gabe Nabers also had a receiving touchdown in that game.

If Ekeler is a surprise scratch, Ballage and Justin Jackson would split carries. Ballage played on 17 percent more snaps than Jackson last week and had four more carries, but the Chargers might have just been taking it easy with Jackson in his first game since suffering a knee injury in Week 9. Both backs would have flex upside in the favorable matchup, though they would also have low floors, so it would be difficult to trust either with your season on the line.
