Can We Please Finish Strong this Week? – Sports Psychology and Clinical Psychology


I’m back at the blog station because I am still scared, but still in a healthy way. My eating this week has been better than usual, but still far from perfect. But since I have not blown it with excess, and since I have fasted 2 or 3 meals, I feel that if I have a strong finish this weekend, I will lose weight and get this overall progress back in line with the 6 month 50 lbs. healthy wage challenge.

It is now Saturday morning. For breakfast, I had oatmeal and raisons, orange juice, a power breakfast sandwich from Dunkin Donuts and a small yogurt with granola. Note that I emphasized the grain and the fiber a little more. I plan on skipping lunch and then having a healthy Greek salad and grilled chicken for dinner. That will be enough nutrition for a human being for the day.

Sunday, I plan to do more of the same, but will probably switch it up a little for variety. I tend to be somewhat of a variety junkie when it comes to life and eating. I get bored a little easier than most, so tomorrow I might have breakfast and lunch and a little different composition, but skip dinner.

After this weekend of careful smart eating, the big weigh in occurs on Monday morning. That weigh in can be my worst nightmare, or it can give me a sense of pride and progress that I am going to do this, I am going to win the healthy wage challenge, I am going to lose 50 lbs. I really need to have a good weigh in!

This brings me to vigilance. I think that one word is the most important in weight loss. It’s the taking your eye off the ball that spells disaster. And one great way to remain vigilant is to blog about what you are doing, and this is precisely what I am doing now, in the moment, and I do not plan to edit anything. It might not be the best writing in the world, but it will convey where I am, my feelings, my thoughts and my behaviors. It hopefully conveys my fears too. Losing 50 lbs. is a pretty daunting challenge, and if everyone succeeded, that company would go bankrupt. They survive because so many people fail to achieve their goals, and they keep your money. Jerks! Just kidding. There has to be a consequence for failure. I am not a big proponent of giving consolation prizes and letting every kid pass to protect their self-esteem.
